According to Aristophanes, in Plato's Symposium, ZEUS, fearing their power, split them all in half, condemning them to spend their lives searching for the other half to complete themselves.
My impression? And I know I don't really have to 'pictorialise' it to get satisfaction..... is a male and female by the waterside. The trouble is they are both looking in the wrong direction to find the other. I like the way woodcuts add the dimension of natural 'streaks' to a picture.

ReplyDeleteIt is such an intriguing/compelling idea -- the soulmate, I mean. (Even if we don't quite believe in it, don't you think we still have yearnings that way?) You've illustrated it very cleverly.
